Meanwhile the Forest Service is expressing its gratitude to the hundreds of firefighters who have been doing the dusty, smoky, and dangerous work of fighting wildfires over the past several weeks.  The Interagency Dispatch Center is reporting that fire activity has slowed across the area after the much-needed rain.

The major fires on the South Dakota side of the Black Hills, such as the White Draw Fire, the Parker Peak Fire and the Highlands Fire, are all one hundred percent contained. And the Forest Service says many firefighters will be able to spend some time at home this weekend before being re-assigned.  Forest Supervisor, Craig Bobzien, says everyone's hard work over the past two weeks is appreciated and Saturday he extended his condolences to the families, friends and co-workers of the four Air National Guard crewmembers from North Carolina who died fighting the White Draw Fire.
