Friday Field Trip - The Boondocks
Friday, 06 July 2012 15:40
We are taking you on a trip down Highway 385 for our Friday Night Field Trip.  First, it's time to step back in time at a family destination between Deadwood and Mount Rushmore.  Black Hills FOX reporter Tessa Thomas takes us back to the '50s at a place called Boondocks.   Operations Manager Aaron Jorgenson says, "Wholesome fun in a positive atmosphere. I mean, there's no catch, no gimmick, just fun. That's all there is."  Nestled in the Black Hills Boondocks began as an authentic Valentine diner that was built in the 1950s.  Since then, it's expanded adding a convenience store, cabins and camping, gift stores, a car collection, old time photography studio, filling station, games and amusement rides.  Jorgenson says, "We try to make it so that no matter how busy we get it feels like you have the entire place to yourself. We actually assign groups a ride operator so they stay with one person the whole visit."  Boondocks is a place for the young and young at heart.  Many people just can't pass it by while traveling down Highway 385.  Jorgenson says, "It really would have to be the classic atmosphere and reminding people the way things used to be and how positive, fresh, and fun life used to be. I mean, not that it's not now, but it was so much more wholesome back then. And to bring those times back I think just really strikes people."  With you're Friday Night Field Trip I'm Tessa Thomas Black Hills FOX News.
