Flags across South Dakota flew at half-staff Thursday in remembrance of the four North Carolina airmen killed while fighting wildfires near Edgemont. Governor Dennis Daugaard says it's a tragedy to lose the four men, who died when their C-130 cargo plane went down Sunday evening.

The men were identified as Lieutenant Colonel Paul Mikeal, Senior Master Sergeant Robert Cannon, Major Joseph McCormick, and Major Ryan David. The airmen were all members of the North Carolina Air National Guard's 145th Airlift Wing. Governor Daugaard said, "Our hearts go out to their loved ones."
