The fast-moving fire quickly burned the two single-family structures not long after the fire ignited Sunday afternoon. In addition to the two homes, two other outbuildings were destroyed. Firefighters say in spite of the loss of property, there were thankfully no injuries. Incident commander Ray Bubb says, "It was a very dangerous fire. One of the type fires that you can't really put anybody in front of. We can only just find a good anchor point and start trying to flank the fire." Firefighters say the Highlands Fire has now consumed about 150 acres. It is about 40 percent contained. After having been evacuated from the area, homeowners are now being allowed to return to their homes. -Al Van Zee |
