Tips on keeping air-conditioners cool

As the temperature rises throughout the Black Hills, folks around the area are turning to their air conditioners for relief.  Action Mechanical, a local heating and cooling company, says they've been swamped over the past few days with air conditioner repair calls.

They say with the increased load summer heat puts on our air conditioners, keeping filters changed is key to keeping the cold air coming more efficiently.  Bill Gillen of Action Mechanical says, "And even though we get cooler evenings, don't be the first one to open your windows if it's going to be hot the next day, because with the humidity we've been having, that actually reduces the efficiency of your air conditioning. You get about 50 percent of what your unit is rated for because the first thing it has to do is de-humidify."  Gillen also says cleaning the intake grates around your air conditioning unit goes a long way when it comes to keeping your AC running efficiently during the summer months.
