Hot Springs group concerned about new VA report

A Veterans Affairs economic analysis says the department's plan to restructure its Black Hills Health Care System would save major cash - about $26 million annually. The study concludes that it would be more cost effective to turn the V.A. hospital in Hot Springs into a clinic and rebuild a new facility in Rapid City.

This new report isn't setting well with the Save the V.A. committee in Hot Springs. That town would see the equivalent of 263 full-time workers cut. The group says it will come up with its own proposal and release it by the end of the month.

The director of the Black Hills Health Care System told Black Hills FOX on Friday that nothing is finalized and he would gladly sit down with the group to go over its plan. Steve Di Stasio says he hopes to have a recommendation by July or August.
