This weekend marks the annual 'Gift from Mother Earth' Celebration at the Crazy Horse monument. As has become custom, the Crazy Horse Stampede kicked off the festivities with cowboys and cowgirls competing in the Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association.

The rodeo actually takes place in the shadow of the monument.

We're going to start with steer wrestling. This is Clay Kaiser from Milboro, SD. He takes down this steer in 5.6 seconds.

They saved the best for last as Ty Fischer from Ashland, Mont., wins the event on the last run of the afternoon with a time of 4.4 seconds.

On to break away roping this is Kristin Westin from Eagle Butte, SD. She gets it done in 5 flat here. This is Sharon Small from Ashland, Mont.  She looks like she blew away the competition here but she broke the plane early which resulted in a 10 second penalty.

On to the saddle bronc riders now, Tate Longbrake from Dupree is your first rider. He sets the bar high with a 64.

That 64 was the score to beat, this is the last rider of the afternoon, his name is Jesse Wilson from Kyle. Jesse scores a 65 and wins the event.

The Crazy Horse Stampede continues through the weekend.
