Open house at new dispatch center

The new quarters housing the Great Plains Interagency Dispatch Center were open to the public Thursday.  A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the center, and it took place out on the newly seeded lawn.

Sure enough; the ribbon being cut was ribbon usually used in wildland fire situations marked, "fire line."  The new facility houses the radio, internet, and telephone dispatch centers, as well as numerous other Forest Service and other fire agency offices.  Todd Pechota says, "This is a new location for us. It allows all the wildland fire agencies in the state to have a central point for dispatching of resources, large fire support, aviation resources."  The new dispatch center, located next to the Forest Service's Mystic District headquarters, was built to coordinate and consolidate communications during fire emergencies.
