The Pennington County Sheriff's Office has put together a budget plan totaling about $27-point-5 million dollars for fiscal year 20-13.

Sheriff Kevin Thom went before the Pennington County Commission Tuesday to discuss the large budget for law enforcement. Thom says they have more than 20 separate budgets to go through within the sheriff's office. Thom says his department will be adding six positions next year, with three of them being correctional officers for the jail in the maximum unit where extra help is needed for those inmates.

Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom says, "We provide public safety for the community in a lot of different facets from housing prisoners to doing patrol to providing detox, a lot of different programs. And we need to make sure that they're adequately funded and they're well run."

Thom also says they include fuel in their budget, which is difficult to plan for when gas prices keep changing. He says the sheriff's office goes through about 88-thousand gallons of fuel a year.
