The series of events commemorating the Rapid City Flood continued Sunday with a community-wide memorial service at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. During the ceremonies, the names of the 238 flood victims were scrolled across the large display screens at the front of the Civic Center Theatre, where the memorial service was held. The service also featured music from the City Band and memorial Choir, along with bagpipes and Native American flutes.
Speaking at the service were Pastors Ron Masters, La Vonne Masters, and Kent Millard. And there was a final word from former Rapid City Mayor Don Barnett.
The Memorial Service at the Civic Center capped off three days of special events remembering the 40th Anniversary of the Rapid City Flood, which had as its theme, "Remembrance and Renewal."
