And some new figures bear that out.According to the Earth Policy Institute and the American Wind Energy Association, South Dakota now leads all the states in the proportional amount of power produced from wind. Wind now makes up 22% of the power produced in South Dakota. Other states are close behind. Iowa now generates 19% of its electricity with wind energy. In North Dakota, wind accounted for 15%. The proportion of wind-generated electricity has risen dramatically in South Dakota in the last year.In 2010, 14% of South Dakota's power came from wind. In 2011, it rose to 22%. Nationwide, the amount of power produced from wind energy has grown by a whopping 36% each year from 2007 to 2011. Al Van Zee |
