Thursday, 09 February 2012 07:12
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A man and a woman have been sentenced in federal court in South Dakota for illegally trafficking in feathers from federally protected eagles. Thirty-eight-year-old Shane Red Hawk was sentenced to a month behind bars and a year on supervised release. Forty-one-year-old Noella Red Hawk got a year of probation. U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says the Red Hawks in September 2009 illegally sold an eagle feather fan and dance bustles with eagle feathers, and that Shane Red Hawk also sold eagle and hawk feathers the following month. The two Mission residents pleaded guilty last October. (Copyright 2012 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
