VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) _ Authorities are investigating the
discovery of possible explosives in an unoccupied dormitory room at
the University of South Dakota.
University spokesman Phil Carter tells the Argus Leader that the
suspicious material was found by staff Tuesday night after a call
from the parents of an out-of-state student who had decided not to
return for the spring semester.
Carter says the parents asked the school to check on the
student's belongings. He isn't sure if the parents knew of the
room's contents.
Officials from the Sioux Falls bomb squad and state crime bureau
responded. About 20 students in nearby rooms were evacuated.
KDLT-TV says the students have since been allowed back.
