RC high school students head to college for a day
Tuesday, 07 February 2012 12:15
Some local kids took a break from their high school classes to experience a form of higher education. High school students from the Rapid City area headed to the School of Mines on Tuesday to get some college experience.

The program, College for a Day, is sponsored by the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce and the local high schools. The purpose of the program is to encourage youths to continue their education beyond high school.

Coordinator Nancy Anderson-Smith says, "It's very difficult in our economy now, even college graduates are having a hard time getting a job. So if they just have a high school diploma, it's not going to be a very good future for them economically. So we want to have kids come and learn that college and that some form of higher training beyond high school is very important to their careers and to their life."

Anderson-Smith says it's important for kids to get on college campuses so that they can envision themselves there, continuing their education.
