2011 tourism numbers on par with 2010
Monday, 06 February 2012 12:33
Even with record attendance at the stock show, the number of tourists who flocked to the Black Hills in 2011 wasn't as expected. The Rapid City Convention and Visitors Bureau says the numbers for 2011 were good, but not great.

2011 numbers were up about .34% over 2010, but the CVB says they'd like to see the percentage jump from 5 to 10%.

Michelle Lintz says, "Yes, they were up from last year but you know 2010 was a record year. So I guess we feel good that they were even with 2010 numbers and the fact that they were up by the end of the year a little bit, we feel very good about that."

Lintz said that tourist numbers were down during the summer of 2011, but rebounded again in the shoulder months, October, November, and December.
