Bull elk poached at Wind Cave
Thursday, 02 February 2012 12:25
Rangers at Wind Cave National Park have discovered the carcasses of two mature bull elk which they believe were poached some time earlier this week. The elk were found intact along Red Valley Road in the northern part of the park early Tuesday morning.

Apparently, whoever killed the animals made no attempt to take the meat or the antlers.

Park Superintendent Vidal Davila says it looks like someone was driving along the road, saw the elk, and just decided to shoot them.

Park rangers are working with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officers on the investigation. The park is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the case. If caught, whoever is responsible for the crime will face up to a $5,000 fine and six months in jail.
