Three Cobbler athletes set sights on college ball

Wednesday marked the national signing day for high school football prospects to decide which college clubs will retain their services in the coming years. The Central Cobblers signed three players to letters of intent.

Quarterback Mike Norberg signed with South Dakota Mines where he will transition to wide receiver while studying engineering.

Norberg says, 'I would have to say it's meeting Coach Collins. He's just a really fired up guy about football. I think he's gonna bring that passion to the game. Really gonna turn the program around.'

Teammate Taylor Houchin decided the place to play his college ball is Northern State in Aberdeen. Houchin is leaning toward a major in the exercise sciences.

Houchin says, 'To be honest, I didn't expect much from Aberdeen, but I'm really glad I took a visit. Went out there and their facilities and coaching staff were great and I just love an opportunity to try to play early and go work hard for them.'

The third in the trio was Jake Weber who will make the transition to defensive end for the Augustana Vikings. Weber's decision fell squarely on his future.

Weber says, 'Probably the biggest thing for me was academics. That was a huge part. Their placement rating for academics is great. It's like a 95% placement rating. So that was a huge factor to take in, 'cause you want to go somewhere it's going to prepare you for the future. Not only to play football. As far as the football standpoint, they're a heck of a team. They're good year in and year out, they're kind of one of those traditional teams that are always good.'
