Legal and Finance discuss longer terms for mayor and aldermen
Wednesday, 01 February 2012 12:24
Extending term lengths of Rapid City's mayor and aldermen is a move that some say requires more thought and consideration. Aldermen Dave Davis and Charity Doyle both agree the current proposal of extending terms to four years is too much.

At Wednesday's meeting of the Legal and Finance Committee, the two said four-year terms are too long, and if the city did move in that direction, many changes would have to be made to accommodate those longer terms.

The committee today voted 3-2 in opposition of the first reading of the proposed ordinance change. The city council will further discuss the proposal at next week's council meeting.
