Bike Path reaches $70,000 in donations

Rapid City will soon be getting a bit brighter the result of a campaign to "Light the Night."  The Light the Night campaign says it's reached about $70-thousand dollars in donations to install solar lighting along a stretch of Rapid City's bike path.  The project was started last September spearheaded by the Rapid City Police Department's Street Crimes Unit in an effort to provide for more safety along the path.

Since then the program was bolstered by a $40 thousand dollar grant from the Rapid City Rush Foundation.  The remaining $30 thousand came from donations in the community.

Light the Night Co-chairman John Brewer says, "The path is something this community really reveres. It came to us at great cost. It's something that we've preserved over the decades since the flood in '72, and this is another crowning achievement that will make this path better for the public and Rapid City."

The lighting along the bike path is scheduled to be complete this June and Light the Night is still taking donations toward the project.
