Electrifying demonstration at Stock Show
Monday, 30 January 2012 15:49
The Black Hills Stock Show is more than just watching the rodeo and visiting vendors, it can also be educational. The South Dakota Rural Electric Cooperative presented a "shocking" safety demonstration Tuesday.

Their goal was to educate students on the importance of basic electrical safety. The demonstration included a simulated overhead power line with live electricity.

Joe Connot with West Central Electric says, "We're going to demonstrate 7,200 volts of electricity, the dangers and hazards that go with electrical energy. You can't see it, you can't hear it, but if you touch it we're going to show them what happens."

Connot says that safety is 100-percent of their job. In his 33 years of experience with electrical wiring, he says he's seen a minimal number of accidents because of the educational demonstrations they perform.
