Kooiker says town halls benefit council and community

It's a meeting with no agenda. The discussion is driven only by those in attendance.  The North Rapid Civic Association hosted a town hall meeting Thursday night to gather city officials with the public.  Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker says these meetings are very beneficial to the council as well as to the public.

Kooiker says, "I believe there are a number of issues that have been brought out at these forums. They may be as small as a street sign or a traffic issue and as large as, you know, a larger ordinance issue or a construction type issue, but regardless of the issues that are raised, every issue is important to us because it's important to the citizen that raised it."  Kooiker says the best form of government is one that is as close to the people as possible, which he says is what the night was all about.
