The "Melon" program is an effort to get kids to wear helmets while bike riding, as well as an effort to improve bicycle safety in general. Some lucky kids were fitted for free bike helmets at the Kohl's check presentation ceremony. Sean Powers says, "We visit schools throughout the Black Hills community and educate kids on the importance of wearing helmets and being safe while they ride bicycles, tricycles, skateboards, scooters. And throughout the year we also hold events: bike rodeos and other events where we give helmets out to children in the community." The Kohl's contribution is part of the "Kohl's Cares" campaign, which helps children at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Al Van Zee |
