DOC sends out alert about convict's release

State officials are spreading the word about a soon to be released convict looking to set up residence in the Northern Hills.  The South Dakota Department of Corrections says Daniel McQuillen is scheduled to be released Friday.

Back in 1982, McQuillen was sentenced to 55 years in prison after being found guilty of first degree rape in Minnehaha County.  Authorities say the victim in the case was 11 years old.  Because of the laws back then, McQuillen had his sentence reduced and will be released Friday.  He's reportedly looking to reside near Lead.  Authorities say during his incarceration, McQuillen refused to undergo assessments and treatment which is why they're trying to notify area residents about his future plans.  McQuillen was also convicted of attempted rape in the late 1970s.
