Oktoberfest kicks off in Deadwood
Friday, 30 September 2011 15:50
The summer is beginning to fade and the fall colors are beginning to show throughout the Black Hills.  With October just around the corner, Deadwood's annual Oktoberfest celebration has begun.  Polka music filled the air Friday to kickoff Deadwood's Oktoberfest.

The Oktober Polka Fest got things started at noon, with non-stop polka music, dancing and free food.  The event coordinator for the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce says you can dance the whole weekend away with a lot of other activities to keep you busy as well.  Event coordinator Sarah Anderson says, "We also offer open container, which is on Main Street from noon until 6 on Saturday only. And every casino has a lot of different things going on, so it's not just our activities, everybody's got something going on."  Activities continue Staurday at noon with the Brat giveaway, more Oktober Polka Fest, and the 5th annual Wiener Dog Races starting at 1 o'clock on Main Street.  The celebration goes through Sunday.
