The police department says it's grateful for all of the bystanders who helped the man until rescue crews could get on scene.

The man, who hasn't been identified, was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The female driver of the van was ticketed for failure to yield after a stop.

Police say both involved in the crash are active military at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
