Drivers spend most of their time sideways making their way through extremely tight turns. Competitors say speed is somewhat important in drifting but the technical difficulty of negotiating the track makes it hard to master this motor sport. Driving like this anywhere else may get you a hefty fine but planners say they actually coordinate with the police to make it all happen. Event Director Kris Cudmore says, "You gotta have insurance and basically rent the parking lot out. Other than that, we try to inform the police, authorities, whatever town we do it in we've done it here and in Sturgis just let them know that we're out here. We're out here legally and I haven't seen a cop down here. I gave them a call on Friday and they've been pretty gracious with us." Planners say hopes are high for making it a two day event in the future. Brendyn Medina |
