Co-principal investigator talks lab funding
Friday, 01 July 2011 12:14

Work continues at the Sanford Lab at Homestake with the Davis Campus set to open early next year at the 4,850-foot level.  Funding is one of the big challenges facing the project these days.

Dr. Bill Roggenthen is the co-principal investigator for the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Lab project. He says he's confident they will get funding to at least carry them through to next year.  Roggenthen is hoping the Department of Energy decides to move forward with the major permanent funding and says he knows what they need to do in the meantime.

Roggenthen says, "We have a very active science project going on right now with the Majorana project, the LUX project. I mean these are really exciting times up there. That's what we need to do, is keep the eye on the ball in terms of doing good science and then continuing to make sure that everyone understands the potential of Homestake and the potential of the Sanford Lab."

You can find out more about the Sanford Lab and the DUSEL at 9:30 p.m. this Sunday on Focus right here on Black Hills FOX.
