On most Good Fridays, the Alliance of Churches holds an indoor service. But Friday, the groups decided to invite community church members to take part in a re-enactment of Christ's carrying of the cross to the place where he was crucified. About 30 Sturgis church members took part in the cross-walk. Pastor Michael Fox says, "We usually do it inside the churches on Good Friday but we wanted to remember, really, Jesus; the remembrance of his death. And we wanted to do the cross walk out in the public to make it more of a public thing." According to tradition, Jesus carried his cross along an ancient street in Jerusalem called the Via Dolorosa, which in Latin means, the Way of Sorrows. Al Van Zee |
