| PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ The group that oversees extra-curricular activities in South Dakota high schools has adopted changes in some sports. The High School Activities Association board of directors is cutting the number of Class 11AA football teams that qualify for the playoffs from 16 to 12. The four teams that have the highest seeding will get a first-round bye. The board also voted this week to eliminate district tournaments in Class B wrestling and hold region tournaments, effective with the 2012-13 school year. In gymnastics, a team will need at least four competitors to be considered a team for any competition. In Class AA gymnastics, conference meets will replace region meets in determining qualifiers for the state competition. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
