Forecasters say a serious winter storm is on the way.And a Rapid City Red Cross official has some advice for Black Hills area residents.To prepare for power outages, furnace failures and road closures, it will be wise to stock up on some basic items.
Richard Smith says, "Basically it's about having a flashlight, blankets, extra food, extra medication. All the pieces you can grab quickly; take these out of the house if you have to leave. But if you need them if the power goes off at your house if you need them they're easy to find." Meanwhile, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety is warning everyone that hazardous conditions will make it dangerous to be out Saturday night and Sunday. The state's transportation secretary says it's possible that sections of Interstate 90 and other highways will be closed.Officials are advising motorists to call 5-1-1 for the latest road conditions, or go to safetravelusa.com on the web before venturing out on the highway.
