RC Library teaches kids about backyard birds
Tuesday, 18 January 2011 15:45
Kids filled their noggins with healthy living information at the Rapid City Public Libraries Monday.  Tuesday, they got a new lesson, this time in backyard birds.  Folks from the Black Hills Raptor Center fascinated their audience with two live owls commonly found in backyards in the Black Hills.

Maggie Engler says, "We talked about where they might see them, whether or not they would eat some of the birds we saw in the slides, before the live birds came out. And we talked about some of the special adaptations that owls have."  Engler says it's important to teach the kids about the outdoors because many kids are not in touch with the natural world around them.
