The U.S. Forest Service is looking for public input into its proposed project for the Steamboat area. The Steamboat area is located in the northern Black Hills directly east of Nemo and west of Piedmont. The goal is to improve forest conditions to benefit wildlife, reduce the risk of mountain pine beetle infestation and reduce the risk of wildfires through commercial and non-commercial timber harvest.
Nearly 23,000 acres would be treated under the proposed plan. The Forest Service will hold a public meeting Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock at the Fire Hall in Piedmont to discuss the project. The public comment period for the proposed action ends January 14. Megan Palera |
