According to a release, the Rapid City Police Department served a search warrant on Spencer's Gifts in the Rushmore Mall just before 9:00 o'clock Monday evening in response to a possible violation of the city's adult-oriented business ordinance. The warrant was issued by a judge in order to allow the Police Department to seize evidence from the retailer. The City Attorney's Office has attempted to obtain voluntary compliance by Spencer's Gifts with the adult-oriented business ordinance for more than year. The retailer has refused to obtain a license to operate an adult-oriented business, and as a result the City's Attorney's Office anticipates filing chargers in the near future. Operating an adult business without a license is a violation of the law and is punishable by a fine of up to $200.00 and/ or 30 days in jail. |
