The South Dakota Army National Guard's 451st Engineer Detachment has received official notification for deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The Sturgis–based 451st is a firefighting team and will provide firefighting service and support, including fire protection of aviation and other major facilities.

The seven– person unit is expected to mobilize in May of 20–11, first reporting to Fort McCoy in Wisconsin for training before leaving for Afghanistan.
