Rapid City's public schools have taken their first enrollment count of the year. The preliminary numbers show 13,482 students were enrolled in the district as of September 3rd. The first count is taken on the first Friday of September. Assistant Superintendent Katie Bray says this year's first count at 13,482 is up 111 students from last year's first count. Bray cautions, though, that the number could change quite a bit between now and the last Friday of the month ... when the official count is taken. She says that's the number that really matters ... because it determines how much funding the district gets from the state. Jim Peterson |
