SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A good week for fieldwork has given
South Dakota farmers an opportunity to cut silage and seed winter
wheat.
The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop and weather
report that 12 percent of the state's winter wheat crop is planted,
on pace with the average.
Development of the corn crop in South Dakota is ahead of the
average. Harvesting of corn silage is 39 percent complete, compared
to just 6 percent last year at the same time.
Pastures in the state are rated 63 percent in good to excellent
condition, compared to 51 percent on average. Cattle are 92 percent
in good to excellent condition, and sheep are rated 87 percent in
those categories.
