SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A proposed management plan for part of
Badlands National Park would create a tribal national park managed
by the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
The National Park Service is taking public comment on the idea.
The change involves the park's so-called South Unit that covers
about 208 square miles.
Making it a tribally managed park would require congressional
approval.
The land was taken from the tribe by the federal government in
the 1940s for a practice bombing range and is now managed by the
park service as part of the Badlands park.
