The superintendent of Rapid City Area Schools says the district is seeing a big influx of kindergartners this year. Dr. Timothy Mitchell says the kindergarten classes in North Rapid City are beyond capacity so the district had to add two full-time equivalent teachers to that grade level. He says kindergarten classes at the Valley schools are within three students of being at capacity and southeast schools are at capacity if you count Robbinsdale in that group. Mitchell says there is space available in West Rapid; however, school officials don't believe it's in the best interest of those very young students to be bussed all the way across town.
